Zurich/Austin, March 13, 2024 -- Climeworks, a global leader in carbon removal via direct air capture (DAC) technology, announced today its U.S. headquarters in Austin, Texas, with additional teams in New York, Washington, D.C. and California. These new locations will serve as a strong platform for Climeworks' accelerated growth in the U.S.

Douglas Chan, Climeworks’ Chief Operating Officer and General Manager of U.S.
Last year, Climeworks announced its plans to scale up in the United States. Our new headquarters in Austin, Texas, complemented by a presence on the West and East Coasts, will enable us to grow more rapidly and provides a foundation for multiple direct air capture projects in the U.S. in the coming years.

Climeworks momentum in North America continues; U.S. a strategic market

Over the next year, Climeworks expects to triple its American team with open roles across multiple disciplines now posted. The majority of U.S. employees will be based in Austin as Climeworks builds out a team of experts across Engineering, Project Management, Supply Chain, Technology, Project Development, and other functions. Commercial and Corporate Finance professionals will form the majority of teams operating from satellite locations on each coast.

Establishing U.S. headquarters in Austin comes after the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) selected all three DAC Hubs that Climeworks participated in: Louisiana (Project Cypress), North Dakota (Prairie Compass Hub), and California (California DAC Hub) to be eligible for a total of more than $600 million in government funding in August 2023.  Climeworks has a leading role in Project Cypress and acts as the anchor DAC technology provider. The company is also a key technology provider to the Prairie Compass DAC Hub and the California DAC Hub.

The U.S. is a strategic market for Climeworks, with deployment of cutting-edge technologies like DAC now being catalyzed in the U.S. by the country’s leadership on carbon management policies included in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and Inflation Reduction Act. The U.S. is also home to local partners with relevant expertise in safe and permanent geological storage of CO₂ and large infrastructure projects, providing a strong foundation for Climeworks to further develop its supply chain and deploy at scale.

Austin, Texas is an ideal location for Climeworks because of its strong talent pool, business-friendly environment, and central location. The city's excellent quality of life also makes it attractive to talent from outside Texas. It’s also a leader in climate action, with a goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2040.
